On Tuesday, May 14th at 10 AM Archbishop Anthony Apuron will bless and dedicate the photovoltaic systems recently installed on the Chancery office and on his home. Together the 2 solar arrays will produce about 335 kilowatt hours of electricity per day 7 day a week, 365 days per year

Archdiocese will have 267 kilowatts of photovoltaic generation in place, sufficient power to support 40 average homes using 1,000 kwh per month. In the first 10 years of operation over $100,000. in utility savings can be expected from these installations.

These savings result from the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) entered into by Archbishop Anthony and an Independent Power Producer (IPP). At no expense to the Archdiocese, the IPP installs the photovoltaic system on Archdiocesan property or roofs under a long term lease of the specific site. The IPP then sells power to the Archdiocese at an initial rate equal to 80% of current utility rates. In 10 years it is expected that the rate being charged by the IPP will be about 60% of the rate being charged by the utility at that time and savings will continue to increase for the 25 year life of the agreement.

The photovoltaic systems for the Archdiocese are being installed by Pacific Solar & Photovoltaics, Inc., Guam’s first photovoltaic contractor who does complete turn-key installations. Pacific Solar & Photovoltaics Inc. began working in solar and photovoltaics in 2008 and installed the first GPA approved net metering project in February of 2009. Since 2009 they have completed numerous projects on private homes, commercial sites, government buildings and military installations.
